Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is frequently recommended by GPs and other professionals for anxiety, stress, depression or other mental health issues. It focuses on your thought patterns, negative self-talk and analyses the cycle of trigger – thought – feeling – physiology – behaviour.

It can be very useful in certain contexts, for example work stress and anxiety around Covid-19 as it can help you to figure out how to analyse what stories you tell yourself and how your self-talk can be adding to your anguish.

Have a think about how you speak to yourself in your head and see if you are critical or hard on yourself?

Our therapists will use CBT to analyse what specific thought patterns are unhelpful for you and we will work together to come up with kinder, better alternatives.

CBT is not useful in certain circumstances like trauma or grief where our thinking is not responsible for the issues we are dealing with and emotional exploration may be more appropriate.
